Without a doubt Nica was the smartest Afghan I have lived with. She was always up to something! A devil, a clown, & escape artist extraordinaire. I have many, many amusing stories about her … I like this one.
As a gift to my Mother I bought & planted several fruit trees. Nica's “nemesis” was the Plum tree. Left to amuse herself one afternoon, I looked outside to see Nica pulling with all her might on the tree which now clung to earth by a single root.
I ran to the tree’s rescue propping it up & pushing it back into the ground. This was the first of MANY battles between Nica & the tree. The tree was rescued many, many times. It always survived, but it never had a single plum.
Years pass & then finally. Plums! We wait in anticipation as they start to ripen, but we never got to taste one. In two days, Nica picked and ate EVERY plum from the tree. Only a month later my smartest Afghan left me.
Nica rests now beneath her tree … I’m pretty sure she would have liked it that way.
